A prize of £1,000 has been won by Mr. John Rolfe of Pembroke. He had paid into the life-saving lottery with Wales Air Ambulance for some time and was amazed and delighted in August to get the telephone call giving him the news that he had won first prize in that week's draw. The lottery, which benefits this emergency service by providing over 34 per cent of its sustainable income, is drawn every Friday and 23 prizes are given every week. Mr. Rolfe and his wife are planning to use the windfall on a welcome holiday. The couple have seen the helicopter at work in the community when it landed on the road near the Stepaside turning some years ago to attend a serious accident and know the valuable work the crew do. Mr. Rolfe is a golf enthusiast and keen gardener and moved to Pembroke from Reading six years ago, having been a regular visitor to the county. He said: "I just pay the lottery through direct debit and had forgotten about it. I still can't believe our good luck."
