At the July meeting, club members enjoyed a most interesting talk by Alan Clarke from the Living Garden, Llanelli, about his favourite plants. Alan showed beautiful slides of many interesting and unusual plants he grows and enjoys in his garden and nursery.
The club chairman, treasurer and secretary had been at the Hywel Dda Centre in Whitland earlier in the evening to meet the officers there and see the tree the club had given for the garden. This was a replacement for one that had died and it was good to see it newly planted and looking very fine.
The day trip to Powys Castle in June was an unqualified success. It was a lovely fine day and quite apart from the enjoyment of the gardens and castle everyone enjoyed the beauty of the countryside, driving up through mid Wales and returning down the west coast.
The next club meeting will be on August 20, when a panel of club members, who have been successful at the annual club show over the years, will explain some of the rules about showing flowers, vegetables and produce and answer questions. There's nothing magic about showing, but a few tips may give new members the courage to 'have a go'.
New members are always most welcome at the club. Meetings take place on the third Thursday of each month throughout the year, at 7.30 pm at Whitland Town Hall, where there is ample parking. The annual subscription is £10, but visitors are always welcome to go along and see if it comes up to expectations before they decide to join.
