An exciting packed programme of events is lined up over the next few months at the Kilgetty Buffs Club.
The RAOB social club, with Mel Caudwell at the helm, whose husband Mark ‘Polo’ has been a ‘Buffs’ committee member for 16 years, and chairman and secretary for the past three years, has gone from strength to strength since Mel took over at the premises last year.
“We’ve had a lot of positive feedback from customers on how the club has turned around since Mel has come in,” remarked Polo... “and with new revamped Coors pumps installed at the bar, even the beer is cleaner and cheaper now!” he laughed.
There is a real family atmosphere at the club, with Mel and Polo’s daughters Nikita and Tamzin Caudwell, along with relatives Holly and Jake Owen, all working at the venue.
With four TVs showing all the major live sporting events broadcast by SKY Sports on Multiscreen, including Premier League matches, the club also has plenty of entertainment, with pool and snooker tables, dart boards, and games machines in the downstairs bar.
Functions for birthday parties and special occasions can be booked in both the large upstairs function room and downstairs.
“We’re even taking weddings and funeral teas now, so give us a ring to discuss what size room you require, as we can accommodate both large and smaller gatherings,” continued Polo.
The events programme kicks-off this month with a special charity prize bingo night in aid of Diabetes UK on Friday, September 9, followed by another bingo prize night on September 30, for the Teenage Bone Cancer Trust charity. Doors open at 6.30 pm for these events, with the bingo set to start at 8 pm.
“Traditionally the club in the past has predominantly been a venue for musical tribute acts, so we’re trying to mix things up a bit now, modernise events, and put on a wider variety of entertainment and live music,” explained Mark.
Earlier this year, ‘The Crafty Cockney’ darts legend Eric Bristow appeared at the club for a packed out exhibition evening, followed by a question and answer session, while fellow darting superstar Bobby George is set to appear next year too.
On Friday, October 21, it’s ‘ladies evening’ at the RAOB, featuring a double bill of erotic dancer Paul Grant and Wales’ top vocal comedy entertainer Steve Saint. Tickets are £7 in advance.
The following night, male singer Stu will be at the club for another evening of entertainment.
Saturday, November 19, popular Pembrokeshire band The Collective will be playing live at the Buffs, with their brand of rock and indie covers, along with DJ Panter, to add to the feast of music.
Salsa dance classes are run every Tuesday night from 7 pm at the club, while bingo nights continue every Wednesday and Sunday, with eyes down at 8 pm.
Starting on September 10, every Saturday between 5 and 9 pm (for members only), the ‘Spin the Wheel of Fortune’ fun will begin, with a chance to win money off selected drinks on the hour.
Sunday lunches, between 12 and 2 pm, are also proving very popular at the club, with booking advisable.
Children are welcome in the downstairs bar, and with plenty of parking space, coach tours are welcome to call in - phone ahead first.
Tickets for any event at the Buffs Club, which celebrates its 60th anniversary next year, can be purchased from the venue or from Bumper to Bumper in Kilgetty. You can also check out the RAOB’s Facebook page at Kilgetty Buffs Club 7893
