Activities commenced at Tenby Community Learning Centre on Friday, May 11, with the opening of the Arts and Crafts exhibition by Clr. David Pugh. Adult Learners' Week is about celebrating learning and recognising the achievements of learners.

The exhibition was living proof that is never too late to learn and the standard of work on display was excellent.

But it was not just the visual arts that were being celebrated. The evening was also about celebrating the achievement of learners who had taken external examinations in the previous year and the creative writers who had produced an anthology.

Members of the creative writing group entertained the invited audience with readings from the anthology and some of their newer pieces. Their programme was varied and enjoyable and they proved that the class of 2011 were worthy winners of the centre's Adult Learner of the Year Award.

During the rest of the week there were free taster sessions when members of the public had the chance to try out different genres of art, creative writing, flower arranging, local history (including a chance to sample some medieval cookery!), pottery, silver jewellery making and yoga. As a result of these tasters, several people have already put their names down for next year's classes!

The week was also supported by Tenby Library who daily produced a different book display to coincide with the activities and demonstrations taking place on that day.

The week concluded with a quiz on Friday evening when members of the languages classes had a chance to test their knowledge of the countries whose languages they are learning: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Wales and England. There was also a chance to sample food from these countries!

It was an enjoyable evening and all agreed it was a fitting end to a hectic week that had been packed with activity.

P.S. The winning team was from Tenby Library (nothing to do with the display of travel books behind them!).
