A THIRD documentary by the Wales This Week team is being televised about Bone Marrow Donation on Monday on HTV at 8 pm. It is also being promoted on the 6 pm slot on the ITV Wales News. The second of these documentaries by HTV was called 'Adam's Diary' and went on to win a silver award from the BMA. It featured Adam Evans Thomas who died two years ago from leukaemia. Before his death, he set about raising the awareness for the need of Bone Marrow Donors in the treatment of all cancers. His work put 3,000 new blood donors on the registry and raised £45,000 for the BBMDA charity to test these blood donors for the Tissue Typing Registry. Just before his death, he instigated another fund- raising appeal called the Bucketful of Hope and today it stands well over £230,000. The second appeal for Bone Marrow Donor Awareness also included building a state-of-the-art Cancer Care Day Unit in Withybush Hospital and a Pembrokeshire Bed for the Transplant Unit in Cardiff. The 500th donor has been harvested this year and the Welsh Blood Service are having a dinner/gala concert for all 500 donors in Cardiff on Sunday.
