One of Saundersfoot’s county councillors has provided an update on active travel links in the village, which will make areas safer for pedestrians.

County councillor for the south ward of Saundersfoot Cllr Chris Williams has said that he has spoken to Pembrokeshire County Council’s highways department and applications have recently been submitted for Welsh Government funding for the safe link up routes across the village.

“One of those link ups is from the railway station along Fan Road to the junction of Valley Road,” said Cllr Williams.

“This will make this area safer for pedestrians and hopefully will help further reduce the current speed limit on this road.

“Another link will be in the centre of the village, making this safer for crossing pedestrians, and hopefully will also include the introduction of extra disabled and 30 min parking bays.”

There are also plans to carry out further works between St Brides Lane and Sandyhill Road, and look at the active travel link to Narberth Road.

“The applications have gone in so fingers-crossed, in the not too distant future, we can look forward to works being carried out to make our community a safer place to live,” continued Cllr Williams.

With work on the Fan Road starting this month, Cllr Williams said that he’d had regular contact with the highways engineer during the last few months.

“Work will be for footpath enabling works and to define the boundaries of the properties. This process will take approximately five weeks and will continue to do as much as the current budget dictates.

“The plan with further funding from Welsh Government will be to link up along Fan Road to the Railway station.

“Further plans are still in the pipeline due to grants being awarded for improvements in the centre of Saundersfoot and a footpath all the way from the School to Coppet Hall.

“After a recent conversation these are hopefully the next stages, subject to ongoing funding,” he added.
