Sir, Mr. Owen Thomas, of Robeston Wathen (Observer, January 25), will be sorely disappointed if he expects the police to take action against selfish drivers who illegally park in disabled bays. I suggest that he drives past Narberth Police Station, as I do once or twice each week. He will see that marked police patrol cars are regularly parked in the disabled bay. Also, the front wheels of a large police van almost always encroach two feet or so into the disabled bay, thus denying another vehicle the ability to park entirely within the designated area. During the past months, I have complained to the police on three occasions, without success. The latest was on January 31 when, following my telephone call to Police HQ at Carmarthen, I was contacted by the Narberth police sergeant. He claimed the police station and its environs to be private property, that there was nowhere else to park the large white van and that the disabled bay would continue to be used by police vehicles when necessary for operational purposes.
