John Prout, the managing director of Oxfordshire-based DCS Joncare, has been presented with a lifetime achievement award for innovation and customer service at a dinner in London, hosted by the BHTA, the British Trade Association for the Healthcare Industry; and attended by celebrities Rolf Harris and Ed (Stewport) Stewart. John was born in Stepaside, and attended Narberth Grammar School before commencing his engineering apprenticeship at the Pendine Experimental (MOS) Station, which he completed in Liverpool. His career took him to Oxford in 1974, and he started his Joncare business in 1978. His 30-year working lifetime of achievements include the successes of his popular Joncare brand products for aiding children with a disability to sit, walk, play and all other daily functions and enjoy inclusion in school and with their families. He designed these aids himself, and has also personally selected children's products from central Europe that have been successfully introduced by John to the marketplace. The award was also in recognition of John's record of co-operation with government employment initiatives, including the employment of disabled people, and his hard work in the field building the Joncare business for many years. The DCS Joncare business is international and sells disability aids for children; and adults locally (through the Oxfordshire showroom and home visits) for mobility and daily living needs of the aged and disabled. In his spare time, John has been (and still is!) active in local sporting and musical organisations, as well as national charities.
