Last Saturday’s Absolutely Fabulous Vegan Fayre held in Tenby’s De Valence attracted many visitors (writes Jemima Childs). The hall was packed with foods and items which contained no animal products.
There were stalls offering beauty products such as shampoos, lotions and soaps, alongside stands selling meat-free curries, pies and hot-dogs. They even had dairy-free ice-cream!
The fayre’s aim is to raise awareness of the availability of products which are beneficial to both our health and the planet. Factory farmed animals contribute to climate change due to carbon emissions, therefore everyday positive choices can reduce environmental damage.
Without consumer demand for many products, the destruction of the environment, health problems and animal cruelty can significantly decrease. And choosing a plant-based diet is good for lowering the risk of diseases such as diabetes or heart attacks, by ensuring that five-a-day recommendation of eating fruits and vegetables is surpassed. Using cruelty free, ethically sourced products does not mean giving things up. Quality of life for both humans and animals is improved by choosing from the huge range of plant based products which were showcased at the fayre.
What we buy and the way we live has a direct impact on human and animal welfare, and the environment. If you’d like to see what the fayre has to offer, or if you’d like to help save the planet by learning how to make informed choices, it’s not too late!
The Absolutely Fabulous Vegan Fayre is also being held tomorrow (Saturday, August 12) at Narberth’s Queen’s Hall, from 11 am to 4 pm.
