Welsh Conservative AM Nick Bourne (Mid and West Wales) has called on the Minister in the Assembly to say what plans are being discussed to upgrade the A40 beyond St. Clears to a dual carriageway. "Since the road between St. Clears and towns in the west of Pembrokeshire were last improved some years ago, there has been a big increase in traffic, especially to the ports in the Haven and at Fishguard. "The increase is not only in numbers of vehicles, but also in the size of many of the lorries which now use this route between Ireland and the European mainland. In other parts of Europe this road would be seen as a 'continental' route and suitable provision made. "With the development of Bluestone and other tourist attractions, not to mention industrial installations in the Haven, there is an urgent need to provide for traffic growth above the average for the country as a whole. "The Assembly government needs to tackle this problem before it leads to actual financial loss to businesses and danger to the local users of the A40. I am raising the matter once again with the Welsh Assembly Government."
