Sixty children from Tenby Junior School enjoyed a fun-filled packed week at the Pembrokeshire Watersports Centre in June. Most were excited, five days away from home can't be a bad thing! Some were apprehensive, but by the end of it everyone was in total agreement - it was the best week they had had in a long time!
The activities were excellent, with the instructors being top class. Safety was their priority and everyone was given the opportunity to develop new skills and try new activities.
Raft building and speedboat rides proved to be two of the favourites. Despite some of the group experiencing some wild waves, with the boat bouncing on the water, the sight of the seals gave them something else to think about!
Sailing, canoeing and kayaking were the other wet activities, and trying to get your teacher wet proved just as much fun!
Horse riding was a new event this year. Some found the idea of riding a horse quite daunting - including some of the staff! So much was learnt about the care and grooming of a horse and some even managed to trot around as well as weave in and out of an obstacle course!
Problem solving and orienteering also proved to be great fun. Trying to get an egg to land safely from high up is not the easiest of tasks, and most ended up with scrambled egg for breakfast! Everyone managed to get around the orienteering course and get themselves home safely at the end.
Everyone was fed well all week, with a cooked breakfast to set them on the way and an excellent meal in the evening.
The week taught all how to work together as a team, as well as giving them the opportunity to learn skills needed later on in life! Looking after property, using a vacuum cleaner, and being able to get in and out of a wet-suit without any fuss!
An enjoyable experience was had by all. Many of the children would recommend it to anyone - a must for those who haven't been and a week you'll never forget.
A big thank you to all the staff of the watersports centre for all their hard work, it was much appreciated by everyone!
