At a packed meeting of their members on December 12, Pembroke 21C Community Association reported on the updated Pembroke 2020 Community Plan.

The Plan was put together in July 2011 following a comprehensive community wide consultation.

With a questionnaire circulated to every house, two meetings held in each local area and special meetings with the young people, everyone had an opportunity to take part.

A steering group of members and local stakeholders developed the plan from the results of the consultation. It was then widely distributed and presented to the major stakeholders such as the town council as a plan for the whole community to work together to take on new challenges and achieve the best way forward for Pembroke.

The plan has been a working document since them for Pembroke 21C and its several sub-groups. It was recently updated and Elizabeth Gossage, the development officer for Pembroke 21C, presented it to members at the meeting.

"The amount of work that had been done since the Plan was launched is phenomenal," said Elizabeth.

"It is really heartening to see how it has been used to achieve the outcomes the community wants. We are especially pleased with the results of the consultation on the Grove Estate following which a questionnaire was taken round to gather information on the need for a pavement or safe route up Grove Hill. The results have been sent to PCC traffic department and a positive outcome is anticipated."

The meeting began with a presentation to thank the 102 volunteers registered with Pembroke 21C who have contributed a phenomenal 5,906 hours of recorded time to projects and activities in Pembroke over 2012. Eighteen were presented with certificates as Volunteers of the Year 2012.

Gareth Jones, chair of trustees, who made the presentations, said: "These people have been singled out because they have either been especially active over the year or because they have made a huge effort to overcome difficulties in their lives and have learned that they can make a valuable contribution to their community. However, thanking them does not mean that we do not value the contribution all our volunteers make and we ask these people to accept our thanks not only on their own behalf, but for all who have worked with them over the year."
