A DOUBLE dose of new writing is set to hit Wales this month in the form of two plays produced by the Sherman Theatre Company. The Shadow of a Boy, by Gary Owen, will be at the Torch on Thursday, March 24, and Waves in the Chatroom, by D. J. Britton, will be there two days later on Saturday, March 26. The Shadow of a Boy is a dark, yet moving tale, set in the 1980s. It is the story of Luke, an orphan who is about to enter comprehensive school. Hearing from his so-called friend Katie about the terrible things that could happen to him there, he seeks solace in his alter-ego 'Shadow', an alien sent to Earth to determine if its worthy to enter a 'Galactic League of Civilisations'. The second play, Waves in the Chatroom, charts the relationship between two friends who meet in an internet chatroom through their love of Super Furry Animals music. Along the way, they encounter an egotistical Marconi who haunts the airwaves revelling in his creation. Waves in the Chatroom is directed by Sherman Theatre artistic director Phil Clark, while The Shadow of a Boy is directed by guest director Alison Hindell from BBC Wales. The Sherman Theatre Company performs both plays. Tickets for The Shadow of a Boy and Waves in the Chatroom are available from the Torch Theatre box office on 01646 695267. These productions are suitable for ages 13-plus.
