May I take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy New Year and say thank you all for your goodwill messages to the council and I?
May I also express my sincere appreciation of the efforts of my fellow councillors, local organisations and various individuals for their support so far and my earnest hope that this support will continue in 2015?
The turn of a new year is always a time for reflection on what has gone before and it certainly was a busy time in Tenby last year with some of the best summer weather for a number of years and a host of events and festivals, including the annual Ironman Wales contest.
This year also saw us launch our fun-filled festive Saturdays in the run up to Christmas and I must pay tribute to Tenby RNLI, Tenby firefighters, Tenby Chamber of Trade and Tourism, Tenby LVA and Tenby Town Council's Christmas lighting contractors G&I Roofing and Phil Percival for all their support and assistance in helping to spread the Christmas cheer.
As the year comes to an end, it gives us the chance to renew and refresh, to look forward with optimism and hope.
As we go forward into 2015, I think it is clear that there are going to be some trying financial times ahead, but Tenby Town Council and Tenby in Bloom are already in talks with Pembrokeshire County Council as to how we can help mitigate against potential cuts in 'cleaning and greening' services.
As has been proven with our festive Saturdays, there are a great many people and organisations willing to work together for the benefit of our community and I look forward to that support continuing to come from all the town's organisations next year as we strive to do our best for residents and visitors alike.
Tenby won the silver award for the best coastal resort in the UK at the national tourism awards this year. This award is voted for by people the length and breadth of the UK and it is vital we all work together to ensure that Tenby maintains the visual impact and high standards we all expect and are proud of. It is what helps make Tenby such a popular place to live in and visit.
I have always said we are lucky to live in Tenby. Tenby is not like some big urban conurbation, we are a small town where everyone knows each other. We have a great sense of community.
My hope for the new year is that we maintain our sense of community, that we all put aside any petty differences we may have and work in unison to achieve the very best for Tenby!
It's certainly going to be an exciting and challenging year and, as we go forward into 2015, may I conclude in wishing everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
