Items of Victorian china sold by William Crapper from his Swansea emporium are amongst the star pieces to be sold at the Carmarthen Antiques and Flea Market on Sunday, April 9.

Crapper’s ‘China Rooms’ could be found on Castle Street in Swansea during the 19th century and would have attracted discerning customers from near and far.

The ‘Crapper’ items feature beautiful illustrations of ladies in Welsh costume that have been hand painted over transfers. What makes the items being sold in Carmarthen particularly special is that some of them carry the mark W. Crapper, China Rooms, Swansea; rarely are these lovely pieces actually stamped.

All of the china, which would have been made in Staffordshire, is very colourful. A plate which shows four ladies and a young girl names each of those featured from the farm servant to the farmer’s daughters. There are also two striking jugs each showing a different scene from Welsh country life.

Carmarthen Antiques and Flea Market is one of the biggest events of its kind in Wales, and as well as lots of ceramics, you’ll find many rare and unusual decorative pieces and furniture. It’s also the place to shop for military items, toys and agricultural and gardening pieces as well as vintage clothes. There is also always an abundance of retro furniture and items perfect for ‘up-cycling’.

The Fair is open between 10 am and 4 pm on Sunday, April 9. Admission is £4 for adults with accompanied children admitted free of charge.
