Members of 11 guilds from the South West Wales Federation of Townswomen's Guilds gathered together in St. Mary's Church, Tenby, on a Saturday afternoon in December, for their Annual Carol Festival - always a popular event. After a pleasant morning spent wandering round the shops and restaurants, over 200 women joined in a feast of music and prose. The Rector of Tenby gave a warm welcome to everyone and the festival then began in the presence of the Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Trevor Hallett. Choirs from Gorseinon, Port Talbot, Baglan, Pontardawe and Haverfordwest were in fine voice and other guilds joined with enthusiasm in the congregational singing. Althea Rooke and Rita Suter from Port Talbot sang a selection of delightful songs, while Anne Mellon from Pontardawe gave a beautiful solo. Everyone always looks forward with great pleasure to these items which have become a fixture in the programme. Portions from the Bible and from well-known poems were superbly given by readers from Tenby, Haverfordwest, Burry Port, Gorseinon, Morriston and Baglan. During the service, Federation chairman, Joy Griffiths, introduced Mrs. Hilary Harvey, area organiser for the Wales Air Ambulance, who gave a short talk on the work of this organisation, which was to be the recipient of the collection and a most generous contribution was made by members. At the close of the service, the chairman warmly thanked and congratulated all who had taken part in this lovely festival, with a special word of thanks to Eirwen Jenkins, music chairman, who must take the credit for putting together a most enjoyable programme. The afternoon ended with tea and mincepies in Church House prepared by Tenby Guild, who did an excellent job.
