The people of Whitland were given the opportunity to celebrate their community and get involved with their local website last week.

The open evening was hosted jointly by the Carmarthenshire Tourist Association and the Hywel Dda Centre on Wednesday.

The event attracted the likes of the town mayor and deputy mayor, and other interested parties, including local clubs and societies, such as Whitland Anglers Association and the Whitland Air Trainnig Corp.

Emma Martin-Jewell, of the Carmarthenshire Tourist Association, said: "We are very pleased on the turnout at these events and that the days we hold are beneficial to those who play an active role in the community, and local residents. We have held a number of open evenings across Carmarthenshire and intend to cover all the areas which we are working with at present and in the future."

The community website project is funded through European grants from WEFO and the Welsh Assembly government.  This has enabled the CTA to assist over 40 community groups in setting up and maintaining their own local websites.  All community groups wanting to set-up their own webpages can do so through the help and assistance of the CTA.

Those areas which already have a website can receive full training, so clubs, schools, churches, councils, associations can get involved and have their own page on the site.
