At his first council meeting of the Rotary Club of Narberth and Whitland, president David Haward (pictured at his inauguration) dealt with the activities programme for 2017-2018 which is proving to be a busy year for members.

The list is briefly summarised as follows: Friday, July 28 - supporting the Dementia Club (Living Memories Group) at Narberth Museum. Thereafter every two weeks for the next six months; Friday, August 11 - duck race and pig roast at Cresswell Quay; Sunday, September 3 - charity bike ride for Breast Cancer and End Polio Now (starts at Bloomfield Community Centre, Narberth); Saturday, November 4 - autumn concert at Follies, Theatre, Folly Farm, starring Paul Potts, with supporting acts and Whitland Male Voice Choir; Sunday, May 27 - fifth annual Welsh Dragon Boat Championship will be at Llysyfran Reservoir and Country Park, with free children’s entertainment.

David commented that his committee chairpersons have worked hard to present a well-balanced and varied series of events for social fellowship and charitable fund-raising.

Secretary John Sleigh also reported that following a vote amongst members, the Welsh Dragon Boat Championship date was now a fixed event in the annual calendar. It will always be held on the last Sunday in May this being popular on the long bank holiday weekend.

Ken Morgan, co-ordinator for the WDBC, commented: “We have raised approximately £50K for charitable causes in the last four years so we think we have a successful formula to continue this event well into the future.”
