Public conveniences in three separate locations in Pembrokeshire were targeted by vandals over the weekend, with extensive damaged caused.

In the latest of a series of attacks on public loos in the County, toilets in Tenby, Manorbier and Haverfordwest.

Considerable damage was caused at the toilets located in Butts Field car park near to the North Beach in Tenby where vandals forced entry into the roof void and kicked all of the plasterboard ceilings down in both the ladies and gents sections.

In the Manorbier attack, toilet seats were ripped off; toilet roll holders broken and a cubicle door kicked in.

In the men’s toilets in the multi-storey car park in Haverfordwest, a urinal was smashed and dislodged from the wall; a soap dispenser broken off and a toilet seat cracked.

While Haverfordwest and Manorbier are currently being repaired, the Butts Field toilets will be closed for around three to four weeks while repairs are carried out.

The repair bill could run into four figures.

It is the third spate of public toilet vandalism to be recorded in the past couple of months.

In December hundreds of pounds worth of damage was caused at conveniences in Marine Road, Broad Haven, and again at the Haverfordwest multi-storey car park.

Last month toilets at The Commons, Pembroke, were targeted with damage estimated at around £1,000 while another incident was reported - again at Butts Field.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Welsh Language, Cris Tomos – who has previously expressed dismay at the ongoing vandalism – called for local residents, businesses and town and community councils to support the Authority and publc toilet conractors, Danfo, in identifying the individuals causing what he described as “mindless damage.”

Clr. Tomos went on: “The County Council is having to divert more time and resources to tackling this unnecessary vandalism at a time when funds are more acutely needed for delivering social services and education services.

“I would encourage any member of the public to come forward with any information to catch these individuals so that they can be prosecuted.”

Dyfed-Powys Police received a report of youths vandalising the toilets block at Tenby’s Butts Field car park, Tenby, after gaining entry to the toilets in the early hours of Sunday, February 18.

At around 10 am that morning, police also received a report of a break-in at Greenhill School.

A 19-year-old man from Newport, an 18-year-old man from Pembroke Dock, and a 19-year-old man from Tenby were arrested on suspicion of burglary.

All have been released under investigation.

Further enquiries are being made to assess the level of damage and if any items were taken.
