Emergency services were called to Saundersfoot on Wednesday to investigate an unknown object discovered on the beach - which turned out to be a beer barrel keg filled with concrete to act as a sea buoy!
Tenby Coastguard Rescue team were paged shortly before 2 pm to investigate the ‘unknown object’ which had been revealed by the low tide on Saundersfoot beach.
Upon arrival, a cordon was put in place around the object and photographs sent to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to identify if the object was ordnance.
A request was received that EOD needed to investigate further and a larger cordon was put in place which meant clearing the harbour side of the beach of all persons and the harbour car park.
This was achieved by a multi agency response involving the Coastguard team, RNLI lifeguards and Heddlu Dyfed Powys Police officers.
The beach was re-opened to the public shortly aafter information was received to clarify that the object was deemed to not be ordnance and the coastguard team stood down and returned to station.
