Tenby RNLI’s inshore lifeboat was launched at around 11am on Thursday, July 30, after the Coastguard received a call from a walker on Giltar point, reporting that his dog had gone over the cliff.

Concerned that the owner of the dog was going to attempt a rescue himself, the volunteer crew made best speed to the scene and once at Giltar, were directed towards a cave on the western side by a local fisherman who had heard the dog barking for help.

The helm deployed two crew members to retrieve the dog, which had clambered onto rocks at the back of the cave.

Once aboard the lifeboat, the dog was found to be remarkably unharmed despite having fallen a considerable distance from the top of the cliff. It was then safely returned to its very relieved owner on Penally Beach.
