This rescue has set the ‘crowbar’ high for Tenby’s fire crew when it comes to unsual call outs - as firefighters were tasked to rescue a feathered friend on Wednesday morning that had got caught on a roof’s TV aerial in Picton Road.
Slightly different from the age old sight of seeing a firefighter rescuing a cat from up a tree - Tenby’s fire crew raced into action as the crow had been spotted in ‘distress’ and causing concern to a few members of the public.
“It had gotten some nylon or fishing gut wire tangle around it’s feet and after landing on the aerial had become entwined and could not take off,” explained Tenby fire station’s watch manager Jeremy Lees.
“A member of the public phoned the RSPCA but they couldn’t respond that night, but someone phoned the fire crew the next morning as more and more people could see the bird in distress, as other birds were now attacking it, and it was just hanging there unable to fly away.
“We used a roof ladder and a 13.5 metre ladder and a rope rescue kit to free the bird and get the fishing gut off.
“I’m pleased to say that it was unharmed and in good spirits when we got it down,” he added.
