A teenager from Pembroke, already the subject of a community order for theft, appeared in court this week to face charges for similar shoplifting offences.

Eighteen-year-old Simon Lee Rees, of Bentlass Terrace, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing two crates of lager from the Co-op in Neyland, when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Mr. Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told magistrates that on May 29, the defendant simply walked into the store with a friend, selected the boxes of alcohol and walked out without paying.

“The incident was captured on CCTV, and Mr. Rees has previous convictions, some of a similar nature, and is currently subject to a community order for the same kind of offence,” he explained.

The defendant’s solicitor, Mr. Mike Kelleher told the court that Mr. Rees had also recently appeared before Llanelli magistrates, where he was given a further 40 hours of unpaid work in the community for a similar offence.

Magistrates imposed a new community order with a requirement to complete 60 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay costs of £85, a £60 victim surcharge and a court charge of £150.
