A drinking driver who raced so fast police thought it safer to let him go has received a suspended prison sentence.
Mark Hanson, aged 43, of Valence Walk, Pembroke, admitted dangerous driving.
But he escaped a drink driving charge because by the time police caught up with him it was too late to breathalyse him.
Dean Pulling, prosecuting, told Swansea Crown Court that Hanson himself called police to his partner’s address complaining that other people were behaving drunkenly and driving illegally.
But when they arrived in the early hours of October 22 last year, they found it was Hanson who was drunk and incoherent.
He told them he had film on a dash cam that would show them what had happened but when officers tried to play back the footage nothing had been recorded.
His partner told police he was drunk and not welcome to stay the night. Police told Hanson to leave the area but not to drive.
They then parked around the corner in Devon Drive and a few minutes later saw Hanson driving by.
He raced down Golden Hill and three minutes later another officer saw him narrowly miss revellers in Main Street, Pembroke.
Hanson was traced the following day at his mother’s home in North Place, Saundersfoot.
Judge Paul Thomas said Hanson had driven after being told not to and at a ridiculous speed.
Hanson was jailed for six months, suspended for 18 months and ordered to complete 15 sessions of a rehabilitation activity.
He was also banned from driving for three years.
