A Stepaside woman who drove home drunk after a family get-together has been banned from getting behind the wheel of a vehicle for 18 months.
Forty-four-year-old Tracy May Ormond, of Summerhill, pleaded guilty to the offence when she appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told the court that shortly before 3 am on February 21, the owner of a property in Summerhill received a call to say that a VW Golf had been in a collision with a vehicle next to their house.
“At the same time, a witness saw Ms Ormond in the driver’s seat of the VW revving the engine and trying to move the car, but it was so badly damaged that it wouldn’t move,” said Ms Morgan.
Due to the severity of the collision, Ms Ormond had to be taken to Withybush Hospital via ambulance as she had a cut to her head.
A test revealed that Ms Ormond had a reading of 188 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
She told police officers in an interview that she had no recollection of how she got to the crash location.
Defence solicitor Katy Hanson told the court that Ms Ormond had driven to her sister’s house with the intention of walking to the pub for a family celebration, but had ended up driving there as it was cold.
“She is devastated by what has happened and wakes up every morning thinking about it,” said Ms Hanson.
“Ms Ormond had drunk a lot of alcohol, which is not something she would normally do.
“She is a single parent who lives in an extremely remote area and her children are in full-time education, so she is concerned about what impact this will have on them day to day,” she added.
Magistrates disqualified Ms Ormond from driving for 18 months, and fined her £120 for the offence.
She was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge.
