A multi-agency search was conducted along the River Tywi near Carmarthen Train Station last night and into the early hours of the morning, after reports were received that a person had entered the water.

At 10.19pm on Tuesday, August 4, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Carmarthen, Swansea Central and Pont-iets Fire Stations were mobilised to an incident along a section of the River Tywi near Carmarthen Train Station.

This incident required a multi-agency response, with Dyfed-Powys Police, the Coastguard and Ferryside lifeboat crew also in attendance.

The fire crews responded to assist in the search of the river following reports of a person entering the water from a nearby bridge. The crews conducted systematic searches of the riverbanks by foot and by utilising a drone.

The Coastguard helicopter and lifeboats were also mobilised to assist in the search. Further riverbank searches were conducted at low tide and in the early daylight hours.

A spokesperson for Ferryside’s lifeboat crew stated: “At 22:38 the pagers sounded and Ferryside Lifeboat launched both boats up to Carmarthen to assist with a river search. Both boats utilised powerful search lights and FLIR cameras.

“This was part of a multi agency response including two boats from mid and west wales fire service, teams from HM coastguard Llansteffan and Tenby along with police and ambulance. Both boats returned at 02:30 the following morning.”

No person was discovered and no reports of a missing person were received by the Police.

The fire crews left the scene at 6.05am on Wednesday, August 5.
