A Pembroke woman caught smoking cannabis down an alleyway alongside the town’s Main Street has been fined in court.

Fifty-three-year-old Melanie Isobel Bianchy, of Cross Park, Pennar, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court, on Tuesday, to plead guilty to a charge of possessing two cannabis joints.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that police officers on foot patrol at 11 pm on Friday, October 13, walked down the alleyway by the kebab shop on Main Street and saw Ms Bianchy talking to another gentleman.

“Officers could see she was smoking what appeared to be a joint and she tried to hide it, but there was an obvious smell of cannabis. Her handbag was searched and a second joint was also seized.

“In interview she told officers that she smoked cannabis to help alleviate symptoms of agoraphobia. Ms Bianchy has a number of previous convictions, but none for drugs related matters,” added Mr. Pritchard-Jones.

Magistrates fined the defendant £80 for the offence and ordered her to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
