BARNHOWLERS, a Pembrokeshire a cappella singing group which regularly fundraises for local charities is supporting Wales Air Ambulance during its 25th anniversary year.
The group recently busked at Cardigan Guildhall Market in aid of the lifesaving service.
74-year-old Pam Jones who lives near Fishguard said: “Most people know someone who has needed the Wales Air Ambulance.
“I know two people who are thankfully still with us because they received critical care from the service. It makes an incredible difference to patient outcomes.”
Pam says Barnhowlers enjoy performing with a ‘sense of purpose’ for causes that ‘transform lives.’
She said: “There is nothing quite like coming together to sing some of our favourite songs, knowing that we are also making a difference.”
The group performs numerous times each year and has raised hundreds of pounds for worthy causes since it was established in 2011.
Pam said: “Barnhowlers started life about fifteen years ago as a barbershop group. Various people have come and gone, and it has evolved, so now we are an a cappella ensemble, singing a wide variety of songs from various genres.
“We like to mix it up, performing songs from The Beatles and Duke Ellington to Thomas Tallis and Disney. We want to entertain people, and love it when the audience joins in.
“We have a small local following, regularly sing for the Friendship Circle and Gardening club, the local Parkinsons Support Group, the Fishguard Folk Festival and have supported local Food Banks, as well as other health related charities.
“Local nursing homes seem to like us too, we bring a bit of cheer and take people down memory lane.”
Barnhowlers have several dates booked in throughout the Spring and Summer and will be performing at a concert in aid of the Eisteddfod in Pembrokeshire.
Mike May, Wales Air Ambulance Regional Fundraising Manager said: “We are so grateful to the Barnhowlers for using the power of music to shine a light on local causes! “They entertained the crowds at Cardigan Guildhall Market, in aid of Wales Air Ambulance.
The Wales Air Ambulance is a consultant-led, pan-Wales service, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury.
Over 56,000 missions have been conducted since the first flight on March 1, 2001.
The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the charity’s vehicles.
This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.
The Wales Air Ambulance Charity relies on public donations to raise the £13 million required every year.
“We rely on our supporters to help us to continue to be able to keep our helicopters in the sky and rapid response vehicles on the road,” added Mr May. “Every pound raised on the day will help save lives! Diolch yn fawr!”
