A total of 332 cases of excessive speed were among the offences identified by GoSafe, Dyfed-Powys Police and Community Speed Watch schemes across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys during Project Edward last week.

Thursday marked the second annual TISPOL Project Edward - European Day Without A Road Death.

On average 70 people die on roads across Europe each day. The aim of Project Edward is to drive a lasting reduction in road deaths by encouraging all road users to reflect on their behaviour and attitude.

Sergeant Ian Price, Dyfed-Powys Police GoSafe regional coordinator, said: “GoSafe Cymru led the campaign, supported by Dyfed-Powys Police. Despite receiving 11 reports of road traffic collisions across the force, thankfully none resulted in life changing or life threatening injuries, or fatalities.”

The results of action across the force: 332 excessive speed offences; three arrests for drug driving; one arrest for driving while disqualified; 24 mobile ’phone offences; 32 seatbelt offences; 18 Construction and Use offences; and 31 vehicles seized for no insurance/no tax/no driving licence.
