A Narberth man has been handed a lengthy driving ban after admitting getting behind the wheel of his vehicle drunk.
Forty-year-old Garth Llewellyn Price, of Northfield Road, pleaded guilty to driving his VW Golf on the A478 Narberth Road, after exceeding the prescribed limit of alcohol, when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told magistrates that a reading of 62 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, was recorded after Mr. Price’s arrest.
“A police officer on duty on the A478 road out of Templeton towards Narberth, was overtaken by Mr. Price’s VW Golf. Concerned he stopped the driver and a roadside test showed that he was over the limit.
“The unfortunate thing is that it’s not the first time, as in 2010 the defendant has a similar offence on record for driving with excess alcohol,” she added.
Defence solicitor Stacey Holmes told the court that Mr. Price had consumed two small glasses of whisky and an hour later had driven home.
“He did not feel intoxicated and needed to get home to care for his two young children. Mr. Price is self-employed and a family man, His wife is on maternity leave and he is concerned about how he is going to support them.
“He accepts that his actions were wrong and has shown remorse,” she continued.
Magistrates disqualified Mr. Price from driving for 36 months and fined him £440 for the offence.
He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
