A Narberth man has been given a 12-month community order after admitting a charge of cannabis possession with intent to supply.

Fifty-one-year-old Mark Graham Millard, of Glan Preseli, Llanddewi Velfrey, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to the charge.

Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told the court that police officers attended Mr. Millard’s address and executed a search warrant on December 13.

Some 153.5 grammes of cannabis and 14 grammes of cannabis resin was seized after being found inside carrier bags inside a box at the premises. Other items recovered from the premises were weighing scales.

Mr. Millard, who was not present at the time of the search, voluntarily attended a police interview the following day.

He said that he had received money from his son and partner who he had purchased some of the cannabis for.

“He told officers ‘I don’t want to get ripped off, I share it out’ and confirmed that he smoked cannabis every evening,” Ms. Morgan told the court.

“He explained that his ‘Mrs and his son chip in’ and get a share out of it, and that the only people he supplied was his own family.

“Mr. Millard has 16 drug offences on record and the last time he went through the court was in 2012 when he received a suspended sentence for production,” she added.

Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that his client was quite ‘open and frank’ about the matter to police and said that the cannabis supply was for himself and his family, as he ‘didn’t like dealing with idiots in town’.

“This was rather more than he normally would have got, and at the time he was rather pleased with the amount of cannabis that they had got.

“He told officers exactly what the circumstances were. There was no element of commerce, no money was being made, it was purely for his family.

“Mr. Millard has used cannabis for a number of years, he says he has no intention to stop, but recognises that it is illegal and is aware of the consequences,” added Mr. Kelleher.

Magistrates gave Mr. Millard a 12-month community order with 60 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and an £85 victim surcharge. A destruction order for the drugs was also passed.
