A court was told this week how a motorist from Goodwick was nearly three times over the limit when he crashed his vehicle into three parked cars driving home drunk.

Thirty-three-year-old Gareth Owen, from Stop and Call, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to a charge of driving his Citroen Picasso, on Prescelly Crescent, after exceeding the prescribed limit of alcohol; and failing to stop after a road accident that occurred on Back Lane, Goodwick Hill.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that the incident occurred on August 28.

“The defendant went out and had too much to drunk and made a bad decision to drive home. He nearly got home too, but his vehicle collided with three vehicles parked on the side of the road.

“The owner of one of the vehicles heard a bang outside their property shortly after 2 am, and saw Mr. Owen’s car driving a few yards down the road.

“Other neighbours came out and went to the defendant’s property where a female answered the door. Mr. Owen was seen at the side of the property stumbling about, clearly drunk. The police were called, and he was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. He gave a sample of 102 microgrammes of alcohol in a 100 millilitres of breath at the police station,” added Mr. Pritchard-Jones.

Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that Mr. Owen had left his vehicle in Goodwick and when walking home after a few drinks, realised that hi car was parked in a spot where it would be ticketed by parking enforcement officers the next day, and ‘foolishly’ decided to drive it home.

Magistrates disqualified Mr. Owen from driving for 23 months and gave him a 12 month community order, with 150 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and an £85 victim surcharge.
