A Milford mother who made malicious phone calls amounting to the harassment of her ex-husband’s partner has been fined in court.

Thirty-four-year-old Victoria Prettyman, of Cherry Tree Close, admitted a charge of pursuing a course of conduct which amounted to the harassment of the complainant, by telephoning the victim’s workplace on August 17 and making a malicious complaint against her, when she appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that Mrs. Prettyman’s marriage of 17 years ended in May and her husband started a new relationship.

“The defendant didn’t take that well at all and made a number of calls to the ambulance service making false allegations that the partner of her ex had been abusive towards an elderly patient,” he explained.

An internal disciplinary procedure took place and Mrs. Prettyman was issued with a police PIN notice not to make further contact with the complainant.

“However, Mrs. Prettyman did the same thing again and made another anonymous allegation on August 17.

“She also rang her ex who recorded various parts of the conversation where Mrs. Prettyman made it clear that she was not going to stop and intended to carry on causing the complainant problems.

“It caused the complainant some distress and had an adverse effect on her, and she has requested a restraining order,” added Mr. Pritchard-Jones.

Defence solicitor Mark Layton told the court that Mrs. Prettyman was ‘upset and distressed’ by the break-up of her marriage.

“Against the backdrop of this she felt like her life had been pulled apart. She was somewhat emotionally distressed at the time, and made the calls out of revenge.

“She is the sole carer for her daughter and is hoping to pick up the pieces of her own life and move on,” he added.

Magistrates fined Mrs. Prettyman £140 for the offence and ordered her to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.

A three-year restraining order was also passed for the defendant not to contact the complainant directly or indirectly, and not to enter anything on social media.
