A Milford woman has been fined in court after admitting possessing 49.6 grams of cannabis.
Fifty-year-old Tracey Ann Smiddy, of Rectory Avenue, Hakin, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court, on Tuesday, to plead guilty to possessing the drug.
Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court how police attended Ms Smiddy’s home on March 4, for an unrelated matter.
“Officers could smell cannabis and the defendant told them that she had a joint in her handbag.
“When officers searched the property, she pointed to various bags containing cannabis, in total 49.6 grams. There is nothing to suggest that she was selling or dealing the drug,” said Mr. Pritchard-Jones.
Defence solicitor Jonathan Webb told the court that as well as his client producing a ‘reefer’ from her handbag, cannabis was also found in an unused microwave in a shed in her back garden.
“It would seem that it had been there eight or nine years, as once, one of her friends had tried to cultivate cannabis plants, taken it around to Ms Smiddy’s property and she had forgotten it was there. Effectively it was dead and useless, but still illegal,” he said.
Magistrates passed a destruction order for the drugs and fined the defendant £80 for the offence. She was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
