A Milford man has admitted to being over the limit when getting behind the wheel of his vehicle after he crashed leaving a friend’s wedding.

Twenty-nine-year-old Ian Richard Walden, of Glebelands, pleaded guilty to driving his VW Golf with 72 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that on March 26, Mr. Walden attended a friend’s wedding in Haverfordwest and had an argument with his wife, with her leaving on one of the arranged buses for guests.

“Stupidly, in his own words, Mr. Walden drove afterwards. He lost control of his vehicle between Slebech and Haverfordwest, and hit the side of the road, causing his car to come back and block part of the road.

“To his credit, he could’ve run off leaving a dangerous obstruction in the road, but he rang the police after midnight and admitted that he’s written his car off and that he’d been drink driving.

“It’s ‘my own silly fault’ he told officers after being arrested and taken to the police station,” added Mr. Pritchard-Jones.

Defence solicitor Mark Layton told the court that it was credit to his client - a tyre fitter by trade, that he phoned the police.

Magistrates disqualified Mr. Walden from driving for 19 months and fined him £280 for the offence. He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
