A man who used threatening and abusive language in Tenby when telling his girlfriend that she was ungrateful after spending £250 on her that day, has been fined in court.
Thirty-four-year-old Robert Hallett, of Hill Street, Pembroke Dock, appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to the charge.
Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that the incident occurred at around 10.30 pm on September 16, close to the junction on White Lion Street and South Parade.
“There was a number of families still around on the street at the time and Mr. Hallett used a torrent of foul and abusive language towards his girlfriend when telling her that he’d spent £250 on her that day and she wasn’t grateful.
“When police told him that they were going to arrest him, Mr. Hallett ran off and continued to shout abuse at his girlfriend!” continued Mr. Pritchard-Jones, who told the court that the defendant was in breach of a conditional discharge.
Defence solicitor Mark Layton told the court that his client had clearly consumed too much alcohol at the time and he accepted that his choice of words was inappropriate.
Magistrates fined Mr. Hallett £115 for the offence and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
