Police stop checks continue to be conducted across the county to ensure that people are complying with non-essential travel restrictions set out by the Welsh Government.

Today (Thursday) Tenby’s Neighbourhood Policing Team working alongside Pembrokeshire County Council officers, revealed that two tickets were issued this morning for

breach of Covid-19 restrictions.

“Travelling 80 miles to see the beach is not a valid excuse; and travelling 40 miles to go to a garden centre is not acceptable,” stated the Tenby NPT on Twitter.

Altogether, working alongside Pembrokeshire Road Policing Unit team, 555 vehicles were stopped during the patrol today stopped at the North and South Pembs stop check points with eight Covid-19 offences reported as well as 4 further motoring offences. In his daily updates this week, PCC leader Clr. David Simpson stated once again that the ‘stay-at-home’ regulations are very still much in place across Wales.

“The regulations ask the public to think very carefully before they leave their house. They state that people must have a reasonable excuse for leaving home,” he said.

“Every time we leave home, there is a risk we will come into contact with the virus, increasing its spread and increasing the risk to ourselves.

“I am aware that this extended lockdown is challenging however we need to remember that our principle goal is preservation of life.

“We all have a role to play to ensure that we continue to fight this invisible enemy. The pandemic is cruel and it is taking lives and we are also aware that anyone could catch this virus.

“I want to extend my sympathy to anyone who has been directly affected by this virus or knows someone who has unfortunately lost their life.

“I’d like to reiterate the Welsh Government’s latest key messages, namely - all of us must continue to work from home wherever we can; all of us must only travel when absolutely necessary; and all of us must continue to observe the two-metre social distancing rule and wash our hands often.

“These measures will continue to protect us all from coronavirus and save lives.

“The Welsh Government also made a series of small adjustments to the regulations including - allowing people to exercise more than once a day, but people should stay ‘local’. “This means any exercise should start and end at home.

“I urge you, please keep going; keep strong; support each other where you can but remember to keep safe and at home. And remember social distancing is so important,” added Clr. Simpson.
