A Milford man has been fined in court after admitting headbutting a door window causing it to shatter.

Twenty-six-year-old Sammuel James Periam pleaded guilty to a charge of causing criminal damage in Pembroke, on December 30, when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told magistrates how the incident, where Mr. Periam headbutted a glass panel on a door at the Riverside Hostel, was captured on CCTV.

“He was seen to be having an ongoing heated conversation with another male, before headbutting the glass twice.

“The first time there was no damage, however the second headbutt caused the glass to shatter,” explained Ms Morgan.

“Mr. Periam was asked about the incident in custody and he said he’d had too much to drink, and had been looking for his wallet and believed that someone had taken it, but then found it in the toilet.

“He said that he didn’t remember the headbutt, but admitted that his head felt pretty swollen,” she continued.

The defendant’s solicitor, Katy Hanson, told the court that her client was a young man with a number of difficulties, who suffered with serious paranoia and anxiety.

“On a positive note, he does seem to be having a lot of support help as he has recognised his issues with alcohol,” she told magistrates.

Mr. Periam was ordered to pay £145 compensation to Pembrokeshire County Council.

Magistrates also ordered him to pay a total of £178 in fines, costs and a victim surcharge.
