An 80-year-old Whitland motorist has been fined in court after admitting a speeding charge.

Alan Watson Jones appeared at Havefordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to make a ‘statutory declaration’ after being convicted of the offence at Llanelli Magistrates Court back in February.

At the hearing, Mr. Jones claimed that he was unaware that proceedings had taken place to charge him with doing 37 mph in his Fiat Panda in a 30 zone in Meidrim, back in September of last year.

He admitted the offence and told the court that he had been driving since 1954 and that to his recollection he had ‘not been done for speeding before’.

Magistrates fined the defendant £135 for the offence and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge. His licence was also endorsed with three penalty points.
