While much of Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion suffered major flooding over the weekend, South Pembrokeshire escaped the worst of Storm Callum’s fury.
Nevertheless, Friday and Saturday saw high winds and torrential rain, the effects of which could be seen throughout the area. Rail services were delayed on account of flooding, roads were blocked by falling trees, and firefighters were kept busy over the weekend maintaining buildings made unsafe in the storm.
A tidal surge made for huge waves. Careful driving was required at Wiseman’s Bridge where the road was strewn with pebbles and sand carried by the high tide, and Saundersfoot was one of the places affected by a two-day power cut that affected several hundred homes.
Western Power Distribution worked hard to restore power. It was a busy time for emergency services too. These pictures from photographer Martin Cavaney show the fire service and council workers hard at work in the aftermath of the storm.
