A Cwmbran woman caught with a quantity of cannabis in Tenby has been given a 12 month conditional discharge.

Thirty-four-year-old Bethan Renee Coelman, of Shakespeare Road, St. Dials, pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing 2.8 grams of cannabis, when she appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that the defendant was arrested in the resort on January 29 for an unrelated matter.

“As she was put in the police vehicle, she handed a bag to police officers containing the cannabis, which she admitted was for her own personal use,” he explained.

Defence solicitor Jonathan Webb told magistrates that Miss Coelman used cannabis as the result of a horrendous assault that had taken place in 2010, which left her with fractures to her jaw, skull and eye socket.

“She has life long nerve damage and uses cannabis medicinally. She has limited antecedence with no previous convictions for drugs. Her last appearance in court was in 2014,” added Mr. Webb.

Magistrates gave the defendant a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered her to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge.
