The Maritime and Coastguard Agency have issued a warning, after a walker took a wrong step along the Carmarthenshire coast.
A nice walk turned into a nightmare in Llansteffan, recently when one wrong step put Sally’s life in peril. For Sally and Clayton, friends of 40 years, fun turned to fright when she stepped onto soft sand and became stuck.

Time was critical as the tide was rising fast, but Clayton did the right thing. He stayed on the rocks and called 999 for the Coastguard.
With the tide coming in shockingly fast, the Coastguard teams raced to the scene, but Sally was already chest-deep in advancing water.
Arriving first were Gwyn and Chris, Coastguard Rescue Officers from Llansteffan Coastguard Rescue Team, and their rescue training took over.

Attached by ropes, Gwyn swam in and managed to help Sally wiggle free.
Chris pulled them back to safety. Luckily, thanks to the lifesaving decisions at the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Milford Haven and a rapid response, the firm friends made it home.

“Always follow the warning signs in muddy coastal areas,” said a spokesperson for Maritime and Coastguard Agency
“If you do get trapped, sit back to spread your weight evenly across the surface, and then call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
