Carmarthenshire County Council is warning residents about fraudulent emails circulating that claim to be from the council regarding unpaid council tax balances.
These scam emails are not from the council and are designed to trick recipients into revealing personal or financial information.
If you receive an email that does not come from an official @carmarthenshire.gov.uk email address, it is very likely a scam.
Residents should avoid clicking on any links or downloading attachments from suspicious or unknown emails. Instead, forward any suspected scam emails to [email protected], a reporting service run by the UK Government’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).
Cllr Aled Vaughan Owen, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Decarbonisation and Sustainability, said: "These types of scams are deeply concerning, especially when they target residents over something as important as council tax. We want to reassure people that Carmarthenshire County Council will never ask you to verify payment details via a generic email link.
“If you're ever in doubt, please contact us directly. Staying cautious and reporting suspicious messages helps protect not only yourself, but the wider community too."
For any concerns regarding your Council Tax account, please contact Carmarthenshire County Council by email at [email protected].
If your concern relates to suspected fraudulent communication claiming to be from Carmarthenshire County Council please contact the Customer Contact Centre on 01267 234567.
The council urges all residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious communications.
