It was another busy weekend for Tenby’s dedicated crew of volunteers.
On Sunday, the all-weather lifeboat the Haydn Miller was launched at around midday, after the coastguard received a call from a sailing boat, stating they had suffered engine failure whilst approaching Saundersfoot and were unable to enter the harbour.
The volunteer crew were on scene within minutes and having spoken to the skipper of the yacht, he was happy to approach the harbour under sail, but request assistance once at the entrance.
Once at Saundersfoot, due to the lack of enough water for the bigger lifeboat to enter the harbour, the Y-boat was used to bring the yacht into the harbour.
With the yacht and its crew now safe, the lifeboat returned to station, arriving at 12.50pm.
The day before (July 8), the inshore lifeboat the Kathleen Ann launched at 3.20 pm, following a report that a paddleboarder looked to be struggling to make way against a strong offshore breeze of Coppet Hall.
Whilst making their way to scene, the volunteer crew were stood down, after the RNLI lifeguards reported that they had rescued the paddleboarder and needed no further assistance.
On the Friday (July 7), the inshore lifeboat was launched shortly after 4 pm, following a report that there was possibly someone stuck on the reef between Caldey and St Margaret’s Islands.
With the tide flooding fast, the volunteer crew of the Kathleen Ann made best speed to Caldey.
Once on scene, the lifeboat conducted a brief search and soon found somebody fishing on the rocks. The fisherman confirmed he was fine and in no need of assistance.
The lifeboat was stood down and returned to station.
