A Begelly man has appeared in court after being caught by police officers with a quantity of cannabis in his car.

Twenty-one-year-old Maclian Sharratt, of New Road, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to possessing one gramme of cannabis in Carew.

Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told the court that at 12.55 am on August 31, police officers on patrol in the Sageston and Carew area, passed a blue Ford which had its rear window steamed up.

“The car turned off towards Cresselly driving extremely slowly, before turning into an unlit car park at Carew.

“The officer became suspicious and put the car’s blue flashing lights on. The driver of the car was spoken to and appeared extremely nervous. There were three males in the car altogether, and he said that they’d stopped to sort something out.

“The police officer noticed a strong aroma of cannabis coming from inside the car. Mr. Sharratt informed the officer that he had a bag of cannabis and kinder egg containing the drug, as well as a grinder in his possession. It was his and he intended to smoke it he told officers,” she added.

Magistrates gave the defendant a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge.
