Sensei Graham Thomas (pictured) was awarded his 6th Dan at the recent governing body karate championships in Cardiff by chairman Roger Williams and Chico Mbakwe, director WKGB Ltd and chief referee.

Graham started Wado-Ryu karate in Pembroke in 1974, and was graded 1st Dan in 1977 (in London) and is the first local person to achieve a black belt in karate from Pembroke. He gained his 2nd Dan in 1979, 3rd Dan in 1985, 4th Dan in 1992 and 5th Dan in 2001.

He has represented Wales in kumite (sparring) and has coached many students in kumite (sparring) kata (forms), with significant competition success. He has also coached many students to black belt over the years.
