This week's 189th annual Pembroke Farmers Club 'Town and Country Show', held at Lamphey on Wednesday, is almost certain to prove the biggest and best held in recent times.
The superb livestock exhibits - which are always the main attraction - were backed up by such a wide range of other displays, promotions, and trade stands that the huge crowd of visitors, particularly holidaymakers to the area, were held in amazement - there was SO much to see, enjoy, take in and fully appreciate.
Practical working demonstrations of a steam powered engine threshing barley, sheep shearing and falconry and static displays of vintage and modern farm machinery, together with a splendid display of veteran cars, gave a special edge to the agricultural content of the event.
This was further enhanced by the captivating craft marquee with nearly 40 experts in their field showing off just about everything imaginable. The horticultural tent with its fine array of cookery, handicrafts, flowers and vegetables - even after a dry summer - were also a joy to behold. Chairman Peter Rees expressed the club's indebtedness to all the stewards amongst their own members and those of South Pembrokeshire YFC who saw to it that all the classes were run as near to time as possible and that everything went off without a hitch.
"We are also blessed with a superb site for which we must again express out sincere gratitude to the Phillips family," added Peter.
Despite Cardigan Show this year falling on the same day, livestock entries remained unaffected confirmed secretary, Elizabeth Minchin.
"We appear to be just about the same as any other year," she said.
