This was a close fought game between two teams pushing for a top seven finish in the National League first division, but Whitland had the slight advantage of the breeze behind them in the second half, and utilised it well, to score two quickfire tries and secure the points.

The game started off very evenly and Whitland only had a penalty to show for their efforts at the interval.

But with the start of the second half, the Borderers began to take control and scored two early tries.

The first try came from prop David James, who managed to pile-drive his way through the Bedwas defence to score.

Minutes later, Lee Butcher used his skill to create an opening for himself and left the Bedwas defence on the back-foot.

Both teams then exchanged penalties, before Whitland had to hold out in the closing stages with 14 men after hooker John Evans was sent off.

Bedwas piled on the pressure, but the Borderers' defence stood strong and gave Whitland a well deserved and important victory in the closing stages of the season.
