The 2025 UK’s Best Workplaces for Women™ has officially recognised the Port of Milford Haven within the top 100 workplaces among the 350 ranked organisations. This accolade reflects feedback from employees who rate the Port as an inclusive, equitable and empowering place to build a career.
The Port’s safety culture, social and wellbeing activities, positive action to provide an inclusive working environment and a good work-life balance, and its enhanced maternity and family friendly policies, are just some of the reasons why women at the Port of Milford Haven believe it’s a great place to work.
The 2025 UK’s Best Workplaces for Women list is made up of employers whose people have told Great Place To Work® UK they work for a place that is inclusive and equitable for all. The 350 companies on the list are committed to ensuring a reasonable balance of women and men across the organisation; removing barriers to women’s career advancement; and creating workplaces where all employees, regardless of gender, can flourish.
The Port of Milford Haven’s culture is underpinned by its core values of safety, excellence, collaboration and sustainability, and its latest employee survey showed these values are part of everyday work life.
One employee commented: “The social and wellbeing activities and the support offered by the Port is what makes it a great place to work”.
Another said: “The Port is a physically safe place to work and has a positive and honest safety culture. I genuinely feel that the Port wants to keep me safe.”
Diversity is something that Vidette Swales, HR Director at the Port of Milford Haven, feels passionately about. She said:
“We’ve consciously taken steps to improve gender diversity in our business by making improvements to our working practices and upgrading our facilities, and by showcasing the fantastic career opportunities in our sector to women and girls of all ages.
“Today, more than 30 per cent of our employees are female. Women hold 39 per cent of mid-management roles and 43 per cent of positions at Senior Management and Board level. But we know there’s more to do, with many roles still heavily male dominated.
“That’s why we’re a proud partner of a local initiative – SPARC – which is promoting gender diversity across Sustainable Power, Renewables and Construction, where women are typically underrepresented. Through this partnership we’ve reached over 170 female learners aged 12-13 to spark their interest in maritime careers, and we’re looking forward to welcoming man of them to our teams in the years ahead.”
Benedict Gautrey, Managing Director of Great Place To Work UK said: “These companies are dismantling outdated norms, prioritising women’s health, and building clear, supported pathways to leadership.
“This recognition is driven by what matters most: the voices of women who work there. They’ve said, in their own words, that their workplace is one where they’re respected, empowered, and able to succeed.
“Congratulations to Port of Milford Haven for leading by example – and showing what a genuinely inclusive workplace can look like.”
