Young people with additional learning needs have been given the opportunity to experience new sports thanks to two Sport Pembrokeshire events.
The Sport Pembrokeshire ALN multisport community events were held over two days in June, with a range of local clubs and organisations providing taster sessions as introductions to their sports.
One event was held in the south of the County at Pembroke Leisure Centre on Tuesday June 24th and one in the north at Fishguard Leisure Centre, two days later.
There was great attendance in both locations with Tenby Primary, Monkton and Portfield Schools enjoying the sports on offer in the south event and Glannau Gwaun, Waldo Williams, Penrhyn Dewi and Johnston schools heading to Fishguard Leisure Centre.
In total 62 pupils tried their hand at a range of sports and activities put in place by Clarbeston Warriors Football club, Arts Care Dance, Fishguard and Goodwick Hockey, Scarlets, Super 1s Disability & Haverfordwest cricket club.
Elgan Vittle, of Sport Pembrokeshire, said: “The aim of the events is to promote confidence, social interaction, and physical wellbeing, while encouraging participants to explore new activities in a safe and welcoming environment.
“By working closely with schools and community partners, we strive to ensure that every young person—regardless of ability—has access to positive, meaningful sporting experiences that celebrate participation, effort, and fun.
“The feedback was fantastic from all the schools and pupils including the staff really had a great time and we're hoping that quite a few young people will now join some local clubs as a direct result of this event.”
Thanks go to event sponsor Valero and Young Ambassadors from Ysgol Harri Tudur and Ysgol Bro Gwaun who assisted the events.
